The technique comes to us from Native American Indians via Dr William H Fitzgerald, who applied hard pressure to the reflex points on the feet as a form of local anesthetic before surgery in the 1930s. Nowadays reflexology is a refined form of natural therapy.

Reflexologists admit their method may be hard to believe,  yet some doctors and surgeons recommend reflexology, perhaps one of the most unusual yet effective of all the alternative therapies.

In short, reflexologists believe every part of the body is mapped out on the feet, and by massaging the right reflex point on the foot you can affect a bodily organ, tissue or gland.

Reflexologists say the body is divided into vertical energy zones from the base of the feet right to the top of the head. Our feet (and hands) contain reflex points which correspond to every part of the body.

 The belief is that if vital energy (chi or qi) is blocked, ill health will result. Pressing the reflex points regulates the flow of energy and restores balance and health. Your right foot maps the right side of the body and the left foot maps the left side.

When you look at both feet you have a full outline of the human body; your big toe represents your head, with reflex points for brain, nose and throat, pineal, pituitary and hypothalamus.

In the main part of the foot are points for the major organs including lungs, heart, liver and stomach, while your heel corresponds to your pelvis....and so on.

A skilled reflexologist will find the congested or troublesome reflex points by feel - they have granular-like deposits in them. The simple power of touch in a reflexology session can be wonderfully soothing; and reflexology is one of the easiest and most pleasurable ways of reducing stress and anxiety.

Reflexology gives you a simple way of making stress much more manageable. And regular treatments let you take charge of your stress, not be overwhelmed by it.

Needless to say, when you are more relaxed, you are more confident, because your energy is not being misdirected to fighting off the effects of stress.

Reiki and self-confidence

Life force flows through us along pathways called chakras and meridians and surrounds us in a field of energy called our aura.

This incredible life force is responsive to our thoughts and feelings and is disrupted when we take on, either unconsciously or consciously, negative feelings and thoughts about ourselves.
